An urban farm to be built on a rooftop on the outskirts of Paris aims to supply residents with a tonne of food a day in 2020.

Located at the Paris Expo Porte de Versailles, the rooftop farm is due to open next year, cover 14,000 square meters and grow 30 different types of plants.  The plants will be grown in columns without soil and fed with nutrient-rich solutions and rainwater.

Residents will be able to rent space to grow their own crops, while visitors will also be able to purchase the produce, enjoy it in the rooftop restaurant or take part in educational tours and various events.
