Dr Helen Fairweather is a Senior Lecturer in Environmental Engineering and the Discipline Leader for the Engineering program at the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC).  Helen is a late comer to Academia, bringing experience from the government (Qld and NSW state governments, Canadian and UK national governments), research (CRCs) and the commercial (own consultancy) sectors.  This diversity of roles has resulted in a wide field of interest covering agriculture, irrigation, climate research, environmental modelling, hydrology, hydrodynamics, renewable energy and most recently the Internet of Things.

The Internet of Things, is a collection of devices (generally inexpensive) that can connect to each other over the internet, is a valuable tool for encouraging students to engage in STEM subjects.  This is an area that Helen is passionate about, particularly encouraging more girls into the engineering profession.
