Anthony Simmons is the Director, Systemwide Planning and Policy for the Peninsula Corridor Joint Powers Board (Caltrain), which is the commuter/regional rail agency serving the San Francisco Peninsula and Silicon Valley in California. He has over 19 years of transport planning and policy experience in the USA (Houston, Texas, and Charlotte, North Carolina) as well as Australia and New Zealand, and he has led or assisted in developing several politically-sensitive initiatives for light rail projects, multibillion dollar rail mega-project business cases, strategic and integrated transportation plans and stakeholder and public consultation programs. He has helped secure over $1 billion in federal funding for rail projects in Houston, has overseen the delivery of a national award-winning public transport program in Australia, and has appeared before national transportation conferences in Australia and New Zealand.
Prior to Caltrain, Anthony was a consultant for a private sector infrastructure advisory firm, VLC, and a Business Case Project Manager for Building Queensland. Anthony has an MBA from the Australian Graduate School of Management, a Juris Doctorate from the South Texas College of Law, a Master’s degree in Urban Planning from Texas A&M University, and a Bachelor’s degree in Geography from the University of North Carolina at Charlotte.
